arrow, single (→): a symbol used, especially in phonological analysis, to indicate a change from one linguistic form (to the left of the arrow) to another (to the right of the arrow). For example, A→B / C__D means that A changes to B when it is preceded by C and followed by D. Sometimes this arrow is written -->, using only symbols that are available on most keyboards. See also slash [1] (/), long underline (__), double arrow (⇒). [Spanish: flecha sencilla]
