circumflex ( ˆ ): a diacritic mark commonly used to indicate a sequence of high [3] and low [3] tones on the same vowel. Sometimes, it has other uses. Thus â can represent an a with a falling tone, that is, one which changes from high to low. Sometimes called a "caret". [Spanish: circunflejo]
