compound (stem): a stem formed by combining two (or more) stems (or roots). For example, "blackboard" is a compound stem, built from the stems (roots) "black" and "board". A stem with only one root plus one or more affixes is not considered a compound, though it is complex [2]. Compound stems are nearly always derivational. [Spanish: compuesto]
