Each page of this book contains a picture of an animal and the Zapotec word for that animal. Each page is cut in half so that half of the picture and half of the word appear on each half page, and the half pages are placed in random order. The idea of the book is that the reader will match up the picture of the half animal on the left with the appropriate half animal picture on the right. Then he will be able to read the name of that animal across the divide in the middle.
