Popolocan Family
Chocholteco (Ngigua), Mazatec, Popoloca (Ngigua), Ixcatec
The Popolocan family is part of the Otomanguean stock. Chocholteco (also known as Ngigua) is spoken in Oaxaca. Mazatec includes eight varieties, spoken in Oaxaca, Veracruz and Puebla. Popoloca has six important varieties, spoken in the state of Puebla. The name Ixcatec refers to one variety of Mazatec as well as to a language of this family believed to be extinct.
