Mixe-Zoquean Family
Mixe, Popoluca, Zoque

The Mixe-Zoquean family of languages consists of two subfamilies, the Mixean and the Zoquean.

The Mixean subfamily includes the Mixe languages of Oaxaca as well as the Sayula Popoluca and Oluta Popoluca languages in the state of Veracruz.

The Zoquean subfamily includes the Zoque languages of Chiapas, Oaxaca and Tabasco, as well as the Sierra Popoluca and Texistepec Popoluca languages in Veracruz.

In recent years, strong evidence has been published that links the Mixe-Zoquean family of languages with the Totonacan family (the Totozoquean stock).
